Course Description

Yes, this is the moment you have all been waiting for. We now have available our Professional Dog Grooming Course which will prepare you to start working as a Dog Groomer once you have completed this exciting course. You will be able to practice all the skills you learn, training in a professional and friendly environment with all the help you need. Once you have mastered the basics, you will have the option to attend further training days learning more advanced practices which will enable you to offer a wider range of services to your clients.

If you are mad about dogs, then this course is for you. The Professional Dog Grooming Level 3 course will make it possible for you to achieve your dream of becoming a commercial dog groomer. Your course will include a mix of theory based training and work experience in a professional dog grooming salon. Work experience in a commercial salon will also give you a very good insight into the real world of dog grooming – something conventional colleges can’t offer.

The Training Schedule section below shows you just what a fascinating and absorbing course this is. It provides you with an in-depth study of the grooming process, the techniques required and their application to the huge variety of coats you are likely to encounter across the hundreds of dog breeds. From the short wiry coat of the Yorkshire Terrier to the long luxurious pelt of the Afghan Hound; all require different techniques, different tools and an understanding of various temperaments of the different breeds.

The Professional Dog Grooming course maps a number of units of the City and Guilds qualification and is a natural progression route for learners who wish to proceed down this path.

Previous Knowledge Required

You do not need any prior learning knowledge or experience to take this home study course. This course is openly available to anyone who wishes to take part in a highly rewarding home study course, although you would be expected to have a reasonable standard of literacy and a respect for animal welfare.

You have the freedom to start the course at any time and continue your studies at your own pace for a period of up to 12 months from initial registration with the full support of your Tutor.

Support and Assessment

Your Tutor is there to support you and assist you throughout this course. Assessment will be by completion of written assignments and completion of practical sessions. All students must photograph their practical work before and after the task. This forms a useful portfolio for their future use and also acts as evidence of their training. This is especially important should they wish to undertake City and Guilds qualifications.

Whilst working in the salon, Learners will be required to adhere to Salon policies in regard to suitable dress, code of conduct and animal welfare. A copy of these will be forwarded to you on enrolment.

We have an initial assessment process for each student. This helps to identify individual student’s preferred learning styles and makes us aware of any current health problems a learner may have. Again, this will be forwarded on enrolment. All introductory paperwork would need to be completed by each learner prior to commencement of your course. All student details are completely confidential.

What is included?

• Salon experience consisting of work experience in a dog grooming parlour. You should be prepared to commit approximately 70 hours in total for this part of the course and be prepared to undertake salon duties including bathing, drying, brushing/combing out and basic trims (these hours are flexible). They will also be required to complete an observations form, confirming that you have carried out all the necessary tasks required as part of your practical sessions.
